DHS launches voter fraud investigation in nine states
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has launched a criminal voter fraud investigation, described as a surge, targeting nine U.S. states. The operation, conducted by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), is scheduled to run through mid-October, weeks before the November midterm elections. The investigation focuses on potential irregularities involving non-citizen voter registration.
According to federal reports, more than 24,000 potential non-citizens have been identified on voter rolls since April through the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements program. The targeted states include California, Connecticut, Georgia, Missouri, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania, Washington, and Wisconsin.
The DHS stated the mission is to ensure that only American citizens participate in elections. However, the move has faced significant opposition. The Coalition for Immigrant Rights (Chirla) and a naturalized citizen have filed a federal lawsuit, alleging that the DHS is pressuring state officials to investigate voters based on inaccurate data, which they characterize as voter intimidation.
In New York, Governor Kathy Hochul criticized the probe, calling it a continuation of attacks on blue states intended to create uncertainty regarding election results.
