DHS reports removal of 2,000 suspected terrorists amid enforcement debate

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has reported the arrest of 2,150 known or suspected terrorists (KST) and the deportation of 2,015 individuals between January 20, 2025, and September 9, 2026. This follows a period of high migration, including 1.7 million Special Interest Aliens (SIA) from various nations identified as potential national security threats.

During a House Judiciary subcommittee hearing, Representative Pramila Jayapal challenged current enforcement priorities. She testified that for the first time this summer, the majority of individuals apprehended by DHS posed no discernible threat to public safety. Jayapal argued that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has increasingly targeted immigrants without criminal convictions or pending charges, rather than focusing on those with documented criminal histories. She expressed concern that reassigning Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents to street sweeps and traffic stops misallocates resources and may diminish community safety.
