Sen. Chris Murphy clashes with DHS over ICE raids and airport customs plan

Six individuals were charged with immigration offenses, while officials said the investigation uncovered a broader scheme involving forged identity documents.

During a Senate Appropriations hearing, DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin defended a proposal to remove customs officers from airports in cities that do not cooperate with federal immigration enforcement. Murphy pressed Mullin on whether the department would obey court orders, accusing the plan of being illegal and potentially throwing air travel into “chaos.” Mullin dismissed the concerns, asserting the agency would not break the Constitution.
