DHS Secretary Mullin tours Arizona border wall construction
Acting Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin and CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott toured the Arizona border to inspect recent wall construction and secondary barriers. The visit coincided with reports from the administration stating that no migrants apprehended while attempting to enter the country illegally have been released during the first 17 months of the current administration.
According to data from Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Fiscal Year 2026 recorded the lowest number of border crossings in American history. Since January 20, 2025, CBP has completed 250 miles of new border barriers, including primary, secondary, and waterborne structures, along with supporting technology.
Mullin noted that the administration has identified 2,268 known terrorists who entered the country illegally since the current term began. He contrasted current enforcement levels with the previous administration, claiming that hundreds of thousands of migrants were apprehended and released in certain Arizona stretches during the Biden administration due to incomplete records and lack of national security measures.
