Di Giannantonio penalised for chicane cut in MotoGP Dutch GP duel with Marquez
At the Dutch Grand Prix in Assen, Ducati rider Fabio Di Giannantonio attempted a late inside move on reigning champion Marc Marquez on the final chicane. He cut the blue‑painted section beyond the track limits and was handed a long‑lap penalty. Di Giannantonio later said, “I didn’t remember the regulation,” acknowledging his mistake. Despite the penalty, he overtook on the penultimate lap, finished fourth and remains 16 points behind the championship leader.
Marquez also received a separate penalty for a track‑limits breach, dropping him from sixth to seventh. He accepted the stewards’ decision, noting the penalty was for cutting the chicane, not for contact. The incident drew comparisons to the 2015 clash between Valentino Rossi and Marquez at the same corner, highlighting the ongoing rivalry between the younger VR46 rider and the Spanish champion.
