DIA specialist Nathan Vilas Laatsch pleads guilty to transmitting classified intelligence

Nathan Vilas Laatsch, a 29-year-old IT specialist for the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), has pleaded guilty to transmitting national defense information to an undisclosed friendly foreign government.

Laatsch, who held a Top Secret security clearance and worked within the DIA’s Insider Threat Division, initiated contact by sending an email in early 2025 expressing disagreement with the current administration and offering to share classified intelligence products. Following an FBI investigation that began in March 2025, Laatsch engaged with an undercover agent.

According to court records, Laatsch transcribed classified information onto a notepad at his desk, transferred the data to a thumb drive, and performed a dead drop at a public park in northern Virginia. He was arrested on May 29, 2025, after transmitting a subsequent tranche of information to the undercover agent.
