Diabetic retinopathy surgeries restore vision for patients in Czechia and Slovakia

Patients in the Czech Republic and Slovakia have successfully undergone complex eye surgeries to treat vision loss caused by diabetic retinopathy.

In the Czech Republic, a patient named Tomáš underwent surgery led by Dr. Andrea Janeková at the Oční centrum Praha to address proliferative diabetic retinopathy. The condition had severely impaired his vision, making it feel as though he were looking through a plastic bag, and had forced him to abandon hobbies like motorcycling. Following the procedure, his vision significantly improved.

In Slovakia, Matej Sklenář, a long-term Type 1 diabetic, faced near-total blindness due to advanced diabetic retinopathy. After experiencing blurred vision and spots, he underwent a difficult operation at the Oftalmologické centrum Nemocnice Bory, led by Dr. Martin Černák. Medical professionals emphasize that these cases highlight the critical importance of regular eye examinations and managing blood sugar levels to prevent permanent damage.
