Diablo 4 and Path of Exile 2 updates highlight upcoming seasonal content and genre comparisons
Diablo 4 is expected to launch Season 15 around September 15, following the conclusion of Season 14. While Blizzard has not officially confirmed the date, details are anticipated during BlizzCon 2026. The upcoming season will introduce Soul Shards, special items that can be socketed into rings and amulets to provide character bonuses at the cost of negative effects. These shards will feature five rarity levels: common, magic, rare, legendary, and unique. Additionally, legendary items from previous series installments, such as Leoric's Crown and the Horadric Cube, are expected to appear in adapted forms.
In related industry news, Jonathan Rogers, head of Grinding Gear Games, addressed comparisons between the upcoming Path of Exile 2 and Diablo 4. Rogers noted that while players often compare the two hack-and-slash titles, Path of Exile 2 aims for a more hardcore experience characterized by complex skill combinations and class mechanics, distinguishing its design philosophy from Diablo 4.
