Diageo workers at Cameronbridge distillery ballot for strike action

Unite the Union has launched a strike action ballot for approximately 100 members at Diageo’s Cameronbridge distillery in Fife, Scotland. The ballot, which runs from August 26 to September 9, 2026, follows Diageo’s announcement of widespread job cuts across its Scottish operations.

At the Cameronbridge site, which is Europe’s largest grain distillery, an estimated 70 roles—over a quarter of the 200-person workforce—are under review. The union has criticized Diageo for failing to properly consult employees and providing minimal detail regarding the redundancies. Unite officials also raised safety concerns, noting that the company intends to maintain current production levels despite the proposed staff reductions.

These local cuts are part of a broader restructuring program aimed at saving $1 billion in costs over three years. Diageo has already reduced its global workforce by nearly 2,000 employees during the 2026 fiscal year. If the strike action is approved by members, industrial action could commence as early as mid-September.
