Dial M for Murder receives recent stage productions

The classic suspense thriller ‘Dial M for Murder’, written by Frederick Knott, has seen recent stage productions in both the United States and the United Kingdom.

At the Clarence Brown Theatre in the US, the production directed by Melissa Maxwell focused on building tension through pacing and tempo. The performance featured Elise Thayn as Maxine Hadley, an American crime writer. The production emphasized that the audience is aware of the crime from the beginning, creating suspense through the characters' lack of knowledge regarding the unfolding plot.

In the UK, Phil & Ben Productions presented a faithful adaptation directed by Josh Mathieson at the Belgrade Theatre. This production, inspired by the 1954 Alfred Hitchcock film, follows ex-tennis player Tony Wendice as he plots to murder his wife, Margot. The staging utilized period furnishings and lighting design to transform an elegant London flat into a claustrophobic setting for deception and danger.
