Diamantino launches child‑focused environmental education project

On 3 June, the municipality of Diamantino in Brazil held a pedagogic initiative called “Gente Pequena Cuidando do Meio Ambiente” at the Municipal Early‑Childhood School Criança Feliz. Twenty‑two pre‑school children planted a pequizeiro sapling – the town’s symbolic tree – in Praça Delbray Cristofoli as part of the city’s Environmental Week. The event also featured storytelling, seed‑planting activities and discussion circles to foster practical awareness of nature care.

Municipal Secretary of Agriculture and Environment Milton Mateus Criveletto said, “Planting a tree today is planting awareness for the future.” Educators Ana Rose Borges do Nascimento Augusto and Jane Clair Verza highlighted that early, hands‑on experiences help form responsible citizens who value local natural heritage.
