Diamo requests prosecutor review of Ministry of Environment actions

The state enterprise Diamo has submitted a motion to the Supreme State Prosecutor's Office to investigate the actions of the Ministry of the Environment regarding the Heřmanice waste heap in Ostrava. Diamo is contesting the Ministry's decision to withdraw the case from the Czech Environmental Inspectorate and halt proceedings against a company suspected of illegal waste dumping.

Tomáš Indrei, spokesperson for Diamo, stated that the organization intends to use all available legal remedies to determine if the Ministry's conduct complied with the law. The Heřmanice heap, covering approximately 103.5 hectares, consists of mining and coking waste. The site is currently burning, releasing harmful substances into the air, and its remediation process has been suspended due to ongoing disputes.

This legal challenge follows a recent decision by a Prague municipal court, which rejected Diamo's lawsuit against the Ministry concerning the implementation of an air barrier intended to prevent the fire from spreading toward a chemical waste landfill.
