Diana Azevedo appointed Port Captain and Maritime Police Commander of Nazaré

Diana Azevedo has officially assumed the roles of Port Captain and Local Commander of the Maritime Police in Nazaré, Portugal. The inauguration ceremony took place at the Forte de São Miguel Arcanjo and was presided over by Vice-Admiral Diogo Arroteia, Director-General of the Maritime Authority and Commander-General of the Maritime Police.

Azevedo succeeds Commander João Severino Lourenço, who is concluding a three-year term of service. During her inaugural address, Azevedo emphasized the unique nature of Nazaré as a fishing port, a community hub, and an international destination known for its giant waves. Her stated priorities include ensuring navigational safety, enforcing current legislation, maintaining close relationships with the fishing and maritime communities, and strengthening emergency prevention and response in coordination with civil protection agencies.

The ceremony was attended by various local officials, including representatives from the municipalities of Nazaré, Marinha Grande, and Alcobaça, as well as members of the Public Ministry and various security forces.
