Diana 'Didi' Contreras celebrates Peruvian and Miami roots through art

Miami-based artist Diana 'Didi' Contreras has gained international recognition for her vibrant portraits characterized by oversized eyes and rosy cheeks. Born in Chiclayo, Peru, and raised in Miami, her work blends her Peruvian heritage with Cuban and Caribbean influences, featuring motifs such as Peruvian llamas, Inca Kola, and Cuban coffee makers.

Contreras previously spent 17 years as an art teacher in Miami-Dade public schools before transitioning to a full-time career. Her breakthrough came with 'Sofia Rose,' a 15-foot mural in Wynwood. Her portfolio includes collaborations with major brands such as Apple, Levi’s, and Warner Bros., and her work has been acquired by The Coca-Cola Company and collectors like Pitbull.

To support emerging talent, Contreras co-founded the 'Littlest Art Fair' in Little Havana alongside artist Daniel 'Krave' Fila. The event, held in December 2025, featured over 40 artists to provide visibility during Miami Art Week.
