Diana Morant confronts Vicent Mompó over sexist political insults

Spanish Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities Diana Morant and Vicent Mompó, president of the Diputación de Valencia, are engaged in a dispute following Mompó’s social media insults directed at Morant.

Mompó previously referred to Morant as a ‘lameculos’ (ass-licker) of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and stated she was ‘worth nothing.’ While Mompó issued an apology to “society in general” to promote a more moderate climate, he denied the comments were sexist, claiming he is not a chauvinist and suggesting that politicians should not “play the victim,” stating that “politics is not for those who come crying.”

Morant responded by stating she is not crying but is instead “confronting a machismo that cannot be normalized.” She argued that such insults reflect the gender-based violence reported in Spanish courts and emphasized that these phrases should not be tolerated in the workplace or in political life.
