Diana Morant faces scrutiny over 72,358 euro eclipse event cost

Miguel Barrachina, spokesperson for the Consell, has demanded explanations from the Minister of Science, Innovation, and Universities, Diana Morant, regarding the costs of a government event held at the Yebes Observatory in Guadalajara. The event, organized to observe a total solar eclipse, reportedly cost 72,358 euros.

Barrachina, representing the Partido Popular, criticized the expenditure, characterizing the event as a “ministerial party” rather than a scientific dissemination effort. He noted that four ministers—Diana Morant, Óscar López, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, and Ángel Víctor Torres—attended the phenomenon, which lasted approximately one and a half minutes. The opposition argued that the event served more as political propaganda than scientific outreach and called for greater transparency regarding the use of public funds.
