Diana Șoșoacă to face trial for unlawful deprivation of liberty
The High Court of Cassation and Justice in Romania has ordered the commencement of trial proceedings against MEP Diana Șoșoacă. She is accused of committing four counts of illegal deprivation of liberty following an incident in December 2021, when an Italian journalist was allegedly sequestered in her office during an attempted interview.
Also facing trial is her former husband, Dumitru Silvestru Șoșoacă, who is charged with four counts of illegal deprivation of liberty and one count of assault or other violence. This legal action follows the European Parliament's decision to lift Diana Șoșoacă's immunity.
Other allegations involving legionary propaganda have been separated from this case and are being investigated independently by prosecutors.
