Visa denial halts Palestinian music exchange in Montespertoli, Italy

The Italian Embassy in Beirut refused entry visas to a group of five Palestinian musicians from Lebanon, preventing them from joining a cultural exchange scheduled for 19 July 2026 in Montespertoli, Tuscany. The project, organised by the non‑profit Prima Materia APS under its “Music and Resilience” programme, was to bring together seven young musicians – five Palestinians and a local coordinator – with local Italian youth for peer‑learning and dialogue through music. The visa denial, officially justified by the participants’ origin from a context of poverty and instability, also affected a 17‑year‑old pianist from the Beddawi refugee camp in Tripoli. The cancellation forced the cancellation of the planned exchange in its original form, but Prima Materia announced it will continue the project, seeking alternative formats or remote participation to achieve its objectives.
