Diaspora returnees invest in agriculture in Montenegro and Bosnia

Individuals from the Balkan diaspora are returning to their home regions after decades abroad to pursue agricultural and entrepreneurial ventures.

In Montenegro, Šabo Matezić returned to Dobra Voda from the United States in 2008. He has focused on revitalizing local land, managing an estate with various fruits, vegetables, and livestock, and tending to olive groves. He noted that while he finds peace in nature and self-sufficiency, he observes a lack of interest in agriculture among the local youth.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mušan Duraković returned to Srebrenica after more than twenty years in the United States. He established a poultry farming business in Zeleni Jadru with the intention of creating employment for local residents. While facing significant administrative and systemic challenges, Duraković expressed that his decision was driven by a desire to contribute to his hometown.
