Diócesis de Margarita modifies Virgin of the Valley festivities following earthquakes
The Diocese of Margarita has modified the upcoming festivities for the Virgin of the Valley in Nueva Esparta to reflect national mourning following the earthquakes on June 24. Bishop Fernando Castro Aguayo announced that the celebrations will adopt an austere character, focusing exclusively on community prayer and religious faith rather than festive gatherings, loud music, or fireworks.
The programming aims to provide spiritual support to those affected by the seismic events in central and coastal regions, particularly individuals from La Guaira and Caracas who have sought refuge in Nueva Esparta.
Key liturgical events include the 'Bajada de la Virgen' on September 1 and the central solemnity on September 8. The schedule includes a midnight Eucharist for Venezuela, an open-air youth mass, and a morning service to give thanks for rescuers, medical personnel, and volunteers who assisted during the earthquake response.
