Dicmo Bullfighting Night Stirs Animal‑Rights Outcry in Croatia

A traditional night bullfight organized by the UUBBD Dicmo association took place on Saturday in an industrial zone near Split, drawing hundreds of spectators. The event featured fights of the "strongest bulls in Croatia," with the main bout beginning around 22:00, a tombola offering a Mini Morris car as the top prize, and musical performances by singers Goga Sekulići and Rada Manojlović.

Owners of the winning bull, Marija and Ana, praised the outcome, while animal‑rights activists, including Luka Oman of the Friends of Animals group, condemned the practice as cruel, primitive and not part of Croatian tradition, urging a ban. The clash sparked heated debate on animal protection versus local cultural identity.
