Diddl mouse makes comeback in German retail

The Diddl mouse, a German illustrated character created in 1990, returned to German shops in late July 2026 after a twelve‑year absence. The product line, which was withdrawn from the German market in 2014, had already re‑appeared in France and the Benelux region in 2025. Stores across the Trier‑Saarburg district, the Eifel and other regions now stock a range of Diddl items – notebooks, plush toys, mugs, bookmarks, stickers and stationery – with many locations reporting rapid sell‑outs and pending restocks.

The revival has sparked a wave of nostalgia on social media, recalling the 1990s school‑yard culture where Diddl‑branded school supplies served as a form of informal social currency. Articles note the trend’s mixed resonance, highlighting both the fond memories of middle‑class German millennials and the differing experiences of children from lower‑income families who could not afford the collectibles.
