Diddl nostalgia boom drives extreme resale prices
The nostalgic brand Diddl is experiencing a massive resurgence, leading to significant price surges on secondary marketplaces. Following a recent relaunch of limited-edition stationery and a specialized care series at dm, retail shelves have been quickly depleted, driving demand on platforms like eBay and Kleinanzeigen.
Resale prices have reached extreme levels; for instance, a single A6 raspberry-scented notepad, which originally retailed for 5.99 euros, is being offered for as much as 500 euros. Sets of nine notebooks are listed for approximately 820 euros.
Experts attribute this phenomenon to a combination of digital amplification and increased purchasing power among the generation that grew up with the brand. Marketing professor Shyda Valizade-Funder notes that social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram accelerate these retro waves by allowing consumers to share personal stories and collections, creating a community effect and a sense of scarcity that drives immediate buying incentives.
