DiDi and Uber motorcycle services grow in Costa Rica

The use of motorcycle ride-hailing services like DiDi Moto and Uber Moto has seen significant growth in Costa Rica. DiDi reported a 40% year-on-year increase in requests since launching DiDi Moto in the country in March 2025. Most activity is concentrated in the Greater Metropolitan Area, specifically in San José, Alajuela, and Heredia, which account for 60% of all requests.

DiDi estimates that approximately 60% of passengers are women. The service is primarily used during weekdays to connect homes, workplaces, and educational centers, with usage peaking on Fridays. While these services offer a fast and inexpensive alternative for navigating traffic, both DiDi and Uber have addressed safety concerns regarding accidents. DiDi stated that its users are covered by civil liability and personal accident insurance during trips requested through the application.
