Didim Municipality protects endangered sand lily

Didim Municipality teams have taken measures to protect the endangered sand lily (Pancratium maritimum) after it was discovered in the 3rd Bay of Didim. The discovery highlights the natural biodiversity of the region's coastline.

To ensure the survival of the plant and prevent damage to its habitat, local authorities are implementing protection protocols. The municipality has issued calls for public sensitivity, advising visitors to avoid lighting fires on the beach, driving land vehicles onto the sand, and using umbrellas or sun loungers near the plants. The sand lily is a bulbous plant found along the Mediterranean and southern Black Sea coasts and is currently an endangered species. In Turkey, it is illegal to remove these plants from the country.
