Didmus Barasa withdraws support for Speaker Moses Wetang’ula

Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has announced his decision to withdraw political support for National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, citing disagreements regarding leadership in Bungoma County. Barasa stated that his decision follows careful reflection and consultations, arguing that Wetang’ula should retire from Bungoma politics after more than three decades in leadership.

Barasa raised concerns regarding the Speaker’s perceived political alignment with his brother, Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi, who is considered a potential competitor in the Bungoma gubernatorial race. He accused Wetang’ula of maintaining conflicting interests by supporting President William Ruto at the national level while allegedly backing opposition-associated interests locally.

Barasa characterized the move as a “principled act of political realignment” intended to safeguard the unity and stability of the region, rather than a result of personal animosity.
