Die Akademie film explores art academy struggles

The coming-of-age drama “Die Akademie” (2024), directed by Camilla Guttner, follows Jojo Benz, a 19-year-old student at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts. While initially accepted by the renowned Professor Robert Coopley, Jojo faces an elitist and competitive environment marked by stolen artwork and difficult professors.

The film depicts the intense pressures of art school, including the toxic behavior of Professor Norbert Roeg and the exploitation of Jojo by her peer, Siri. As Jojo navigates her studies, she also struggles with personal challenges involving her work, her grandmother’s health, and her family dynamics.
