Die Linke intensifies campaign against Vonovia over tenant complaints
The German political party Die Linke is intensifying its campaign against Vonovia, the country’s largest residential real estate company. The party plans to move into a new phase of its campaign by systematically analyzing 674 tenant complaints collected since May 2026.
According to party representative Luigi Pantisano, the complaints highlight structural issues including mold, water damage, broken elevators, and disputes regarding rent increases and utility costs. The party criticizes Vonovia for treating housing as a profit-driven business rather than a basic necessity. Die Linke intends to use these findings to launch targeted public actions and exert pressure on the company.
A meeting between Vonovia's management and the leadership of Die Linke is scheduled for October 13.
In separate developments regarding German housing, the social association VdK has criticized the federal government's plans to reduce funding for barrier-free housing. Additionally, the CDU in the Saarland state parliament is calling for a state-wide plan to address problematic or dilapidated properties, citing approximately 80 identified 'junk' properties in the region.
