Die Linke reports significant membership growth in Thuringia

The political party Die Linke is experiencing significant membership growth in Thuringia. During a state party congress in Erfurt, state chair Katja Maurer reported an average of four new members joining per day, bringing the total membership to approximately 4,500. Since the beginning of last year, the party has gained more than 1,700 new members.

This growth presents organizational challenges, prompting Maurer to suggest pairing experienced members with newcomers to maintain party functionality. Following the collapse of the BSW as a governing party, the coalition led by Minister President Mario Voigt (CDU) holds only 39 secure votes in the Thuringian state parliament, making it more reliant on compromises with Die Linke to reach the 45 votes required for decisions.

In Berlin, internal calls have been made for Die Linke to adopt a more radical opposition stance. Activists are urging the party to move away from potential red-green-red government coalitions and instead act as a class-based party of resistance against social cuts, militarization, and the rise of the AfD.
