Die Patsy! event celebrates queer Afrikaans culture in Johannesburg

The Die Patsy! event, held on 17 October at Apollo’s Taberna et Mixtarium in Linden, Johannesburg, served as a celebration of Pride Month and queer Afrikaans culture. The evening featured performances by singer-songwriter Armand Joubert, drag queen Regina Blaque, and DJ Lotion.

Regina Blaque, representing the Queer in Afrikaans platform, noted that the event aims to challenge prejudice and create space for LGBTQ+ individuals within Afrikaans-speaking communities. She emphasized that embracing queer identity should not require rejecting one's cultural heritage, noting that many in the community face exclusion from families and social spaces due to homophobia and transphobia.
