Diebold Procomp legacy thermal printers adapted for modern POS

Technical analysis explores how to repurpose legacy Diebold Procomp thermal printers, such as the IM453H model, for use in modern Point of Sale (POS) systems. These robust machines, formerly used by major banks for printing receipts and authenticating slips, often face compatibility issues in contemporary environments.

The primary challenge is that these legacy models do not support the ESC/POS standard established by Epson, which is the industry default for most POS and ERP software. Instead, they utilize proprietary Diebold/Mecaf 'Standard Commands.' This discrepancy causes issues with character encoding, layout destruction, and the inability to process QR codes, as many older firmware versions only support 1D barcodes.
