Diego Fonseca Borges sentenced to 19 years for femicide in Jataí

Diego Fonseca Borges has been sentenced to 19 years, four months, and 22 days in closed prison for the femicide of his former girlfriend, Ielly Gabriele Alves, 23. The sentencing follows a 21-hour trial in Jataí, Goiás.

The crime occurred in November 2023 in a rural area of Jataí. According to the prosecution, the relationship was characterized by jealousy, threats, and aggression. On the night of the incident, Borges invited Alves to a ranch, where he shot her in the chest.

A central piece of evidence was a video recorded by Alves on her mobile phone, which captured the moment of the shooting. This footage allowed investigators to debunk Borges' initial claim that the victim had been shot by men on a motorcycle during a robbery.

The jury recognized three aggravating factors: base motive, ambush or resources that hindered the victim's defense, and femicide. The judge ordered the immediate commencement of the sentence, noting Borges' status as a repeat offender.
