Diego Garcia military base faces mysterious drone threat

The joint U.S.-U.K. military base on Diego Garcia, located in the central Indian Ocean, is facing a mysterious drone threat. The UK Ministry of Defense confirmed awareness of reported unmanned aerial system (UAS) sightings over the remote installation but declined to provide specific details regarding the nature of the drones or the situation.

In response to the sightings, which reportedly occurred near the base’s fuel tank farm, a daytime curfew has been implemented. According to reports from the Air Force amn/nco/snco Facebook page, the curfew restricts activity on the base between 07:00 and 19:00 until further notice.

U.S. Pacific Command officials stated they are maintaining vigilance to protect personnel and facilities but noted that specific force protection measures and security procedures are not discussed for operational security reasons.
