Diego Luna honored at Sarajevo Film Festival

Mexican actor and director Diego Luna was honored with the ‘Heart of Sarajevo’ award at the Sarajevo Film Festival. During a masterclass, Luna discussed the role of cinema in addressing difficult social issues, drawing parallels between the historical violence experienced in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Mexico during the 1990s.

Luna noted that both regions faced periods of intense conflict involving paramilitary groups and civilian displacement. He emphasized that film serves as a mirror, providing a space to observe complex social realities that society often attempts to ignore.

His latest directorial work, ‘Ashes’ (Ceniza en la boca), was also featured at the festival. The film, which premiered at Cannes, explores the experiences of Mexican immigrants in Spain, focusing on the emotional burdens and histories they carry rather than just the act of leaving their home countries.
