Diego Maradona death trial exposes alleged manipulation and medical negligence

Therapeutic companion Carlos Cottaro testified that Maradona’s close circle tightly controlled his communications, preventing contact with his daughters and filtering phone calls. He said, “Many things said about Diego were not said by him, but by his environment,” and criticised the lack of coordinated medical care.

In a subsequent hearing, three defendants – psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov, doctor Pedro Di Spagna and nurse‑coordinator Mariano Perroni – gave statements. Their testimony focused on Maradona’s known cardiac issues and the home‑care arrangement after his November 2020 surgery. The defence requested that nurse Gisela Madrid also be called as a witness. The trial seeks to determine responsibility for the former football star’s death, with the accused facing charges of homicide by eventual intent.

The proceedings have attracted intense public attention in Argentina and internationally as the court examines possible negligence or misconduct by the medical team and the role of Maradona’s inner circle.
