Diego Maradona death trial: Jana Maradona accuses doctor of betrayal

The trial regarding the death of football legend Diego Maradona continues in Argentina, with new testimonies emerging from both the family and the defense. Jana Maradona, the athlete's daughter, provided a heated testimony against neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque, one of the seven professionals charged in the case. She accused Luque of betrayal and expressed the emotional difficulty of reliving the traumatic events to honor her father's memory.

In contrast, the defense for psychologist Carlos Díaz, another accused in the case, presented witnesses to support his role. Two addiction specialists, Damián Barreiro and Ignacio O’Donnell, testified that the outpatient addiction treatment Maradona received was appropriate. Their testimony aimed to validate the home-based treatment modality conducted at the San Andrés country club in Tigre prior to Maradona's death in November 2020.

The legal proceedings involve several defendants, including neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque, psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov, and various nursing and medical staff, all facing charges related to the circumstances of Maradona's passing.
