Diego Maradona: New details on his 1995 return to Boca Juniors

New details have emerged regarding Diego Maradona’s emotional return to Boca Juniors on October 7, 1995. During a match against Colón at La Bombonera, Maradona’s daughters, Dalma and Giannina, surprised him by emerging from a box on the pitch with signs reading “Gracias papá”. While the moment was highly emotional for the fans and the player, Dalma Maradona revealed that her father was initially frustrated by the surprise because he wanted to maintain focus on the upcoming match.

Maradona reportedly requested that his daughters be taken to a private box immediately after the embrace so he could concentrate. Following Boca’s 1-0 victory, he expressed his frustration to his wife, Claudia Villafañe, noting the difficulty of separating personal emotions from professional concentration.

Additionally, records highlight the professional connection between Maradona and player Julio César Saldaña. The two were teammates on 11 occasions, including once for the Argentine national team during the 1993 Copa Artemio Franchi and ten times for Boca Juniors. Saldaña, a dynamic right-sided player, was part of the squad during Maradona’s 1995 return and even substituted for him during a match against Lanús in April 1996.
