Maradona estate legal battle: Matías Morla and sisters to face trial

Matías Morla, the former lawyer for Diego Maradona, will face an oral and public trial alongside Maximiliano Pomargo and two of Maradona’s sisters. The group is accused of fraudulent administration regarding the management of the football icon's commercial brands and intellectual property rights.

The Tribunal Oral N°1 rejected a settlement proposal from the defense, which offered a US$100,000 payment (approximately 150 million pesos) to avoid trial through a probation process. The court deemed this amount insufficient to address the alleged financial damage caused to Maradona's daughters, who are the legitimate heirs.

The legal dispute centers on the commercial exploitation of Maradona's name, including contracts for apparel, perfumes, and audiovisual material. The investigation seeks to determine if the defendants misappropriated assets and profits from the companies managing these high-value brands following the athlete's death in November 2020.
