Tuscany regional issues: psychiatric safety, housing, and police facilities

Several political issues have been raised regarding public services and infrastructure in the Tuscany region. Senator Manfredi Potenti has called for urgent ministerial intervention following incidents at the Santa Chiara psychiatric ward in Pisa. A patient, reportedly transferred from Volterra, caused significant tension by destroying property and threatening staff, leading to police intervention. Potenti highlighted the need for better security for psychiatric healthcare workers and improved management of patients with criminal backgrounds.

Regional Councilor Diego Petrucci has addressed two separate administrative concerns. First, he criticized the shortage of university housing in Tuscany, noting that available beds cover only 4% of the student population. He expressed concern that the high concentration of non-EU students in public residences may disadvantage Italian students and impact local rental markets.

Second, Petrucci is seeking regional assistance to provide suitable premises for the Volterra Police Station. He stated that despite the arrival of new officers, the local municipality has failed to identify adequate facilities, prompting a request for the Tuscany Region to provide unused regional properties to ensure the station can operate efficiently.
