Diego Poncelet sets world skateboarding speed record at 151.83 km/h
Spanish downhill skateboarder Diego Poncelet has set a new Guinness World Record for the fastest speed achieved on a skateboard while standing, reaching 151.83 km/h (94.34 mph).
The record-breaking descent took place on September 22, 2026, on a closed section of the Route des Éboulements in the Charlevoix region of Quebec, Canada. The track featured an 18% incline and a length of approximately 2 kilometers. Poncelet, a 27-year-old two-time world champion, surpassed the previous record of 146.73 km/h set by British skater Pete Connolly in 2017 on the same route.
The achievement followed years of preparation, including wind tunnel testing in Geneva to optimize aerodynamics. Poncelet utilized specialized equipment, including an aerodynamic suit and a custom-built 14 kg skateboard designed for stability. After an initial attempt reached 146.88 km/h, Poncelet waited five days for optimal wind conditions—a tailwind of 10 to 14 km/h—to successfully break the 150 km/h barrier.
