Diego Santilli meets US Ambassador Peter Lamelas on Argentina reform agenda
Argentina’s chief of staff, Diego Santilli, hosted U.S. Ambassador Peter Lamelas at the Casa Rosada for a bilateral meeting. The officials reviewed a sweeping reform package the Milei administration plans to introduce to the National Congress, covering areas such as commerce, investment, security, defence and innovation.
Key items on the agenda included a proposal to amend the Central Bank’s organic charter, reforms to the fiscal immunity law and a new initiative to strengthen private‑property protection. The ambassador praised the dialogue as an “excellent conversation” and reiterated U.S. readiness to deepen cooperation. The visit came just hours after IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva’s appearance at the presidential palace and followed the announcement of a 10% U.S. tariff on Argentine goods, the lowest rate applied to the country worldwide.
