Diego Vásquez leads meteorological workshop at PUCV
Science communicator Diego Vásquez, known as ‘Las Nubes de Diego’, led a workshop at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV) to promote meteorological culture and environmental reconnection.
The workshop aimed to combat environmental disconnection and improve understanding of climate change by teaching participants to observe nature rather than relying solely on technology or official forecasts. Attendees learned to distinguish between more than 40 types of clouds, including high, medium, and low formations, as well as their ecological typologies.
Hermann Manríquez, director of the Institute of Geography at PUCV, emphasized the importance of such initiatives in helping people understand how the planet functions. Vásquez noted that the goal is to provide tools to interpret weather through the landscape—using clouds, vegetation, birds, and waves—to complement artificial intelligence with analog knowledge.
