Dien Bien authorities evacuate 13 households due to landslide risk

Authorities in Na Tau Commune, Dien Bien Province, conducted an emergency evacuation of 13 households, totaling 60 residents, from Na Cai village due to high landslide risks caused by prolonged heavy rainfall.

Local officials identified cracks on the hillside behind the residential area, situated between a high hill and a large water ravine. Given the continuous rain, the risk of soil and rock slides into the community was assessed as high. On the evening of August 19, local police, militia, and officials assisted residents in moving people, essential assets, vehicles, and livestock to safety.

By 11:30 PM that night, all residents were relocated to the homes of relatives or nearby households. Local authorities are continuing to survey the area and are coordinating with provincial officials to assess the danger level and determine further response plans. Residents have been warned not to return to the danger zone until safety is officially confirmed.
