Dien Bien Police warn of social media check-in security risks
The Dien Bien Provincial Police have issued a warning regarding the habit of ‘checking in’ on social media. Authorities noted that posting real-time locations, travel photos, or sharing live positions can inadvertently reveal an individual's current location, movement schedules, and times when their residence is unoccupied.
To mitigate these risks, police recommend that users share photos only after they have left a location rather than posting in real-time. Users are advised to avoid publicly announcing long-term absences from home, especially if the content identifies their home address.
Additionally, the police urge citizens to scrutinize the contents of their photos for sensitive details such as license plates, street signs, house numbers, or personal documents. Users should also review privacy settings on social media and location-sharing applications, ensuring access is limited to necessary individuals and disabling location services when not in use.
