Dien Bien promotes cross-border investment with China and Laos
Dien Bien Province, Vietnam, hosted the 2026 International Investment Promotion Conference on October 19, focusing on strengthening economic ties with China’s Yunnan Province and Laos’s Luang Prabang Province. The event aimed to position Dien Bien as a regional hub for trade, investment, and development cooperation, leveraging its unique position bordering both nations.
The conference resulted in 20 investor-approval decisions totaling more than VND 7.5 trillion and six memoranda of understanding for investment cooperation with commitments exceeding VND 12 trillion. Additionally, the province reported that 31 projects with registered investment capital exceeding 54 trillion VND (over 2 billion USD) have been approved in principle.
Key priority areas for regional cooperation include transport connectivity, logistics, border trade, and processing industries. Other focus areas include commercial agriculture linked to the green economy, as well as historical, cultural, and ecological tourism. Officials emphasized the development of integrated supply and value chains, particularly for agricultural products like coffee and macadamia nuts, to increase market value and expand regional tourism routes.
