One notable example of mechanical longevity is the Mercedes-Benz OM617 engine. Primarily used in the W123 model, this five-cylinder diesel engine became a legend among taxi drivers due to its robust, mechanical construction. Unlike modern engines that rely on complex electronics, the OM617 was designed for durability and ease of repair, allowing it to reach massive mileages with proper maintenance.
In contrast, the Trident Iceni represents a high-performance era of diesel technology. Utilizing a 6.6-liter V8 turbodiesel based on the General Motors Duramax family, the British sports car aimed for extreme specifications. The Track Pack version was capable of producing 660 horsepower and 1423 Nm of torque, with claims of reaching speeds over 305 km/h and a driving range of up to 3,200 kilometers on a single tank through torque multiplication technology.
