Diesel fuel price surges impact US farmers and truckers

Rising diesel fuel prices are placing significant financial strain on farmers and truckers in the United States. In Louisiana, diesel prices have reached an all-time high of $6.03 per gallon, with some reports indicating extreme monthly costs for agricultural operations.

In response to the crisis, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry has declared a state of emergency. An executive order has been issued to temporarily suspend state penalties for using “dyed diesel”—untaxed, off-road fuel typically reserved for tractors and irrigation pumps—in vehicles registered for on-road use. This suspension specifically applies to vehicles registered under Class 2 (forest products) or Class 5 (farm use) to provide immediate relief to the agricultural sector.
