Fuel prices in Italy rise as gasoline exceeds 2 euros per liter FAST-MOVING

Fuel prices in Italy have reached significant new highs, with gasoline exceeding the 2 euro per liter threshold on the national road network. According to data from the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (Mimit), the average self-service price for gasoline on roads is 2.002 euros per liter, while on highways it reaches 2.077 euros. Diesel prices have also risen, averaging 2.116 euros per liter on roads and 2.186 euros on highways.

Industry experts and consumer groups are raising alarms. FederPetroli President Michele Marsiglia warned that diesel could hit 3 euros per liter if geopolitical tensions in the Strait of Hormuz escalate. Meanwhile, the Unione Nazionale Consumatori is calling on the government to act before the current excise tax reduction expires on August 24. They are proposing an increase in the diesel tax cut from 14 to 30 cents and a 15-cent cut for gasoline to stabilize costs for motorists.

Consumer association Codacons has also demanded immediate intervention, noting that the price surge is placing a heavy burden on Italian households, with estimated increased spending reaching hundreds of millions of euros.
