Trump administration pressures EU to release diesel reserves

The Trump administration is exerting significant pressure on European allies, specifically France and Germany, to release their strategic diesel reserves to help lower global fuel prices. Washington has reportedly requested that the European Union release at least 120 million barrels of diesel over the next six months to mitigate price spikes driven by the conflict with Iran.

According to multiple sources, the United States has issued a warning that it may halt diesel exports to Europe if these requests are not met. This move is viewed as an effort to stabilize domestic fuel costs ahead of the upcoming U.S. midterm elections, as diesel prices in the United States have reportedly risen by 70 percent since the onset of the conflict with Iran.

In response, EU representatives from France, Germany, Italy, Ireland, and the United Kingdom have held discussions regarding the potential coordinated release of emergency stocks. European Commission officials have noted that any U.S. move toward an export ban would have “dramatic consequences” for the European economy.
