Diesel prices in Slovakia rise by 30 cents in one month

Diesel prices in Slovakia have increased significantly, rising by approximately 30 cents per liter within a single month. The average price for standard diesel has surpassed the 1.80 euro mark, while premium varieties have exceeded 2.00 euros per liter.

This price hike reflects a broader trend across the European Union, affecting 21 of the 27 member states. Consequently, the price gap between Slovakia and neighboring countries has narrowed, reducing the financial advantage for drivers traveling abroad to refuel. While fuel prices in Poland and Austria are currently higher, prices in the Czech Republic and Hungary have become similar to those in Slovakia.

The surge is attributed to global market tensions, including export restrictions from Russia following damage to several refineries and supply complications caused by conflicts in the Middle East and restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz. While there is no immediate physical shortage of fuel in Europe, market volatility remains high. The rising costs are expected to impact not only motorists but also the logistics, construction, and agricultural sectors.
